Bird Is Rolling Out The World’s Most Eco-Friendly Shared Scooter In Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte will be one the first cities in the U.S. to have access to Bird’s newest fleet of eco-friendly shared scooters.

The Bird Three e-scooters were developed by Bird’s in-house team of top engineering experts, with a focus on sustainability.

Bird officials say the key highlights of the new scooters include:

  • Dual Independent Brakes: Superior braking performance on each wheel that results in a shorter stopping distance.
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking: The industry’s only active safety technology designed to prevent brake failure.
  • Speed Zone, Parking and Sidewalk Compliance: Bird OS enforces strict adherence to speed limits, no-ride, no-parking and reduced-speed zones in cities, including improved sidewalk detection, built into the scooter.
  • Antimicrobial Grips: Added protection helps keep all riders healthy and safe.

β€œWith each new generation of electric vehicle we bring to Charlotte, we have the potential to reduce the need for residents and visitors to get in a car. Bird Three continues this trend with industry-leading performance, range, and safety features, allowing Charlotte riders to replace even more of their car trips with micromobility,” said Tim Harter, Director of Government Relations for Bird.

Bird officials say the reasoning behind these scooters is simple, if the U.S. and others intend to meet their long-term climate goals, as much as 90 percent of all road vehicles must be electric and 20 percent of all vehicle miles must be reduced by the end of the decade.

Officials say this means more cities and riders will soon be relying on electric vehicles, instead of gas-powered automobiles, to travel short distances.

Scott Rushforth, Bird’s Chief Vehicle Officer, says β€œBird is leading the way in safe, smart and sustainable transportation. Every aspect of the Bird Three has been thoughtfully designed to reduce its environmental impact, beginning with a bigger battery that’s more eco-friendly and can power more rides on a single charge than any other shared scooter.”
