Monroe Mother Grieves The Death Of Her Daughter

MONROE, NC – A Monroe family is grieving after a 25 year old woman was shot and killed over the weekend.  Police are looking for suspects in this deadly shooting, which is the second killing in the area  in less than a month.

“I really am just at a loss for words,” said Erica Allen.

Allen is holding back tears talking about her daughter.

“She was just my baby. My first born,” said Allen.

De’sha Franklin, 25,  was shot on S. Johnson Street in Monroe early Sunday morning. The mother of three was taken to the hospital where she later died.

“That was our first born. And I love her so much,” said Bernard Franklin, De’sha’s father.

Allen knows the feeling of devastating loss.

“This is really hard because I buried my oldest son four years ago. Now to bury this one. It’s not, it’s just surreal. It’s not what it’s supposed to be,” said Allen.

Allen says her daughter was a good mother, sassy, full of life, and an excellent hair stylist.

“There is so many people around here who might not have any hair on their head if it wasn’t for my daughter. But seriously. That was her thing. She did hair,” said Allen.

Police have released few details on what led to the shooting.

“Here I am on my birthday trying to figure out who took my baby from me,” said Allen.

Less than a month ago and about a mile away from where Franklin was shot, a 13 year old girl was shot and killed in a drive by shooting.

Police arrested four suspects.

For now, Allen is left without her daughter and an empty feeling wondering why.

“I can’t find no hate in my heart for them, but you gotta pay for what you did. Because you took her away from her children,” said Allen.

Family and friends will be holding a candlelight vigil for Franklin tomorrow night near the shooting location.
