Hundreds Of UNC Charlotte Students Displaced After Signing Onto Unfinished Apartments

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As the fall semester starts up at UNC Charlotte, hundreds of students will not have a place to call home as construction on the East Village Student Apartments remains unfinished.

At least 500 students have been displaced due to a delay in construction, despite the building being set to open the day before classes start on August 22nd.

Officials with East Village Student Apartments on University Boulevard in Charlotte notified future residents of this delay barely a week before the expected move-in day.

Apartment officials told students they would be staying in hotels in the meantime.

Several students submitted complaints to the North Carolina’s Attorney Generals Office regarding the housing crisis on hand, and took to the East Village Student Apartments social media channels to say how they handled this was unacceptable.

One student commented “Class starts in 3 days. Idk why y’all decided to tell us at the last minute”on the apartment complex’s Instagram

With another student commenting right below them saying “This is so unprofessional and inconsiderate. There is no way y’all just found out and have kept this from us with only 4 days before moving in. This is especially inconvenient for the out of state students. They have no other option but to stay in the hotel and STILL have to pay rent and not get the $800 gift card??? Y’all scammed everyone but especially them. You knew exactly what y’all were doing by giving out this information so late. Causing inconvenience for everyone and scamming the money out of us.”
