New Covid Metrics Painting A Grim Picture In Mecklenburg County

MECKLENBURG COUNTY — New covid metrics painting a grim picture in Mecklenburg County as people prepare for the county-wide mask mandate to take effect. Covid cases and hospitalizations are all increasing with a 13.2% positivity rate. Data shows 432 confirmed breakthrough cases since March 22nd.

The county is reporting several new clusters at hospitals:

Atrium Hospital, LCH 7A (nursing unit): 9 staffers with covid.

Atrium Levine Children’s Hospital, Respiratory Therapy Dept: 1 staffer with covid.

Atrium Pineville Non-Maternity Unit: 38 staffers with covid.Atrium Pineville Maternity Unit: 14 staffers & 7 patients with covid.

Novant Matthews Medical Center, Emergency Department: 13 staffers with covid.Novant Matthews Medical Center, Safety Officers: 6 staffers with covid.

Davidson and Matthews joining Charlotte in implementing a mask mandate. It requires people to wear a mask when indoors in all businesses, establishments, and public places regardless of their vaccination status. This applies to all individuals who are at least five years old. The rest of Mecklenburg County will have to adhere to the same rules starting August 31st when the public health rule issued by the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners goes into effect.
