Gerald Mengel is the weekend meteorologist for WCCB Charlotte, joining the weather team in June 2025.

Raised in Pickens, South Carolina, Gerald attended Pickens High School. Gerald decided to follow his passion of meteorology north on I-85 to the Queen City and UNC Charlotte.

Growing up in the foothills Gerald quickly fell in love with the wild weather the Carolinas have to offer. From snow storms to supercells he was fascinated by the atmosphere, and knew he wanted to experience everything it had to offer. From the time he could drive, Gerald grabbed his camera equipment, and hit the road where he quickly fell in love with storm chasing. Gerald has experienced hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, and even the Aurora in his travels. Along the way he decided to take his new understanding of the atmosphere to social media where he runs his YouTube channel β€œGMWeather”.

Gerald decided his next adventure would be Television in the city he calls home. You can catch Gerald on the weekends, or anytime on his social media. If you love photographing the atmosphere as much as him, make sure to send him your coolest weather pics!
