Tomorrow night, a few isolated snow showers will impact the high country thanks to a weak front moving through. It won’t be a big snow event with only light flurries expected along with minimal accumulation. Other than that, we’re mostly in for dry weather, which is great news for plans later this week. This
For the rest of the region tonight is all about the chill that will take hold with teens and 20 in place for overnight lows. This will be one the coldest evenings since early February, causing concern for a refreeze of roadways and black ice.
The clouds stick around throughout the weekend, but most locations will remain dry through Sunday night. Highs will stay in the 40s across the Piedmont and Foothills as afternoon temperatures are near 40° in the High Country.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect, for the High Country and some spots closer to the Virginia border could pick up around 1-2" of snow.
Our next storm system pulls in late Thursday into Friday, and that’s when things get more interesting. If you’re north of I-40, you may see a wintry mix develop overnight with some sleet, a few snowflakes, and a touch of freezing rain. Location matters in this entire situation because different precip. types will impact certain areas. A few isolated slick spots are definitely possible early Friday.
Tomorrow and Thursday look fantastic as sunshine dominates the weather game. We get two solid days of clear, dry weather, and while it’s still chilly, it’s the kind of cold that will feel manageable. Take advantage of it, because the quiet pattern won’t last long.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Ashe, Avery, and Watauga counties, along with portions of Burke and Caldwell counties. This advisory runs from 7 PM tonight through noon Tuesday, and it highlights the potential for ice accumulations up to a quarter of an inch.
Saturday morning starts off with another round of 20s, and the afternoon won’t warm up much beyond the mid to upper 40s.
Happy Thanksgiving friends! Today will deliver a classic late-November feel, with sunshine from start to finish with cooler air in place. Afternoon highs will struggle to reach the low 50s, topping out near 52°. It’s the kind of day where the sun helps, but you’ll still want a jacket if you're heading out for a walk after dinner.
