100 Temperatures To Know

It's just a number, or is it? Every temperature has a story. Some mark important moments in nature, others reveal incredible science, and a few might surprise you. In "100 Temperatures to Know," we'll take one temperature at a time and uncover what makes it worth remembering.

Still hot and humid Thursday

Thursday brings another hot summer day with highs climbing into the mid 90s, and once you add in the humidity, it’ll feel more like the low 100s during the afternoon. Heat index values could easily push 102 to 104 degree range.

Heat index values near 105Β° Wednesday

Wednesday looks very similar, with lots of sunshine, highs in the mid 90s, and another day of dangerous heat. It’ll feel closer to 103 to 104 degrees during the hottest part of the afternoon. There may be a stray pop-up storm late in the day, but the chance is low and most of the area will stay dry.

Scattered storms this afternoon and evening

Monday bringsΒ another steamy afternoon with temperatures climbing into the mid 90s. When you add in the humidity, it’ll still feel close to 100 degrees at times, so it’s definitely another day to take it easy if you’re spending time outside. The big difference is that scattered thunderstorms are expected to fire up later this afternoon and continue into the evening. Some of those storms could pack a punch with torrential rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. The timing won’t be the same for everyone, though. Some spots may catch a storm before dinner, while others may stay dry until later tonight.

Heat Advisories in place starting Thursday

By Thursday, the heat really starts to crank up. We're kicking off a stretch of some of the hottest weather we've seen so far this summer. High temperatures will climb into the upper 90s, and a few spots east of the mountains could even touch 100 degrees.Β

Dangerous heat moves in Wednesday

It's another warm and sticky night across the region, with temperatures only slipping into the lower 70s by daybreak. A few clouds will drift overhead, but all in all we'll stay rain free.

100-Degree Heat Builds Across Charlotte This Week

The big story for the second half of the week is the heat. A strong ridge of high pressure will park itself over the Southeast beginning Wednesday, acting like a lid on the atmosphere and allowing the heat to build for multiple days. Afternoon temperatures will climb into the upper 90s to around 100 degrees through the holiday weekend, with Thursday, Friday, and Saturday coming very close to record highs. Add in the humidity, and it'll feel even hotter outside, so if you have holiday plans, be sure to take the heat seriously.

Sunny skies Tuesday with building heat

By Tuesday, the heat isn't going anywhere. Afternoon highs will once again reach the mid 90s with plenty of sunshine and just a few fair-weather clouds. Rain chances become even more limited as a strong area of high pressure builds overhead, setting the stage for an even hotter stretch through the second half of the week.

Hot and humid this weekend

Both Saturday and Sunday will be sizzling, with afternoon temperatures climbing to around 95 degrees. Add in the high humidity, and it'll feel more like the lower 100s during the hottest part of the day.
