Flash Flood Threat Increasing for Tomorrow Evening

The Weather Prediction Center has placed our area under a Level 2 of 4 risk for excessive rainfall tomorrow, which means there is a marginal-to-elevated concern for flash flooding, especially in areas that see repeated rounds of heavy rain. Tomorrow Evening: This is when I’m watching things closely 5pm-11pm

Isolated severe storms tonight with Flash Flooding concern

Tonight we’re still dealing with plenty of heat and humidity this evening, but a few thunderstorms will pop up late evening. Most of us will stay dry, so don’t expect widespread rain. If you happen to catch one of those storms, though, you could get a quick heavy downpour, gusty winds and frequent lightning. Temperatures will stay warm overnight, only dropping into the low to mid 70s. A level 2 out of 5 for severe storms will stay in place into tomorrow morning. By Friday, the weather pattern gets much more active. A front pushing down from the north will run into all that warm, humid air sitting across the region, and that’s a recipe for more widespread showers and thunderstorms.

100 Temperatures To Know

It's just a number, or is it? Every temperature has a story. Some mark important moments in nature, others reveal incredible science, and a few might surprise you. In "100 Temperatures to Know," we'll take one temperature at a time and uncover what makes it worth remembering.

Clear evening with rain chances increasing late week

Tonight stays mostly clear and muggy, with overnight lows settling back into the low 70s. Thursday temperatures will climb into the mid-90s. It’s going to feel even warmer once you factor in the humidity, with heat index values pushing to around 100 degrees or even a little higher.

Quiet evening a touch warmer Wednesday

Tonight, we get a little break from the heat, but it’s still going to be warm and muggy out there. Skies will be partly cloudy, with temperatures dropping into the low to mid-70s. So while it won’t be quite as hot, the humidity is definitely sticking around.

Intense heat continue this week with a cool down this weekend

Tonight, we’re keeping things fairly quiet across the Metro with partly cloudy skies and temperatures only dropping into the mid-70s. Most of the showers and thunderstorms will stay well north of the Charlotte area, mainly across the High Country and Foothills. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect for those areas through 10 p.m., so if you’re traveling north tonight, definitely keep an eye on the latest alerts. For everyone else, it’s another warm and muggy night before we turn our attention to what’s ahead.

Hot and humid this weekend with storm chances

Saturday's temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 90s but with the humidity factored in, it will feel like it's above 100°. A few thunderstorms could bubble up Saturday afternoon but they won't bring widespread rain.

Dangerous heat continues with isolated rain chances

Tonight, it stays warm and muggy with partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will settle into the low to mid-70s overnight. A shower or storm can’t be completely ruled out, but most of the night should stay quiet. Thursday, the heat really starts to turn up. We’ll see mostly sunny skies with highs climbing to the upper 90s. With the humidity, it could feel closer to 106 during the afternoon.
