Sun and clouds with cooler conditions Friday

We’re keeping an eye on a storm system moving across the Deep South that’s bringing some much heavier rain to places along the Gulf Coast and parts of Texas. As it heads toward the Carolinas, though, it’s going to run into a cooler, drier air mass that’s already sitting over us. That’s basically going to lock us into a cloudy, cool pattern heading into tonight and Friday, with highs stuck in the upper 60s and low 70s. Saturday, expect rain starting very early into the afternoon. Temperatures will struggle to get out of the upper 50s to near 60 degrees, and with a cool northeast breeze, it’s going to feel even chillier.

The First Hurricane Season Outlook Drops TodayΒ From ColoradoΒ State UniversityΒ

One of the biggest storylines this year isn’t just in the Atlantic,Β it’s happening in the Pacific.Β There are growing signs that aΒ β€œSuper El NiΓ±o” could develop as we head into the peak of hurricane season. A typical El NiΓ±o means warmer-than-average water in the Pacific. AΒ SuperΒ El NiΓ±o takes that even further, with temperatures running aboutΒ 1.5 to 2Β°C above normal, which can have a stronger influence onΒ weather patterns.Β Right now, some of the latest guidance from NOAA and the ECMWF suggests there’s roughly aΒ 1-in-3 chanceΒ we could reach those levels by late summer or early fall.
