Tonight, we’ll have to keep an eye on a few thunderstorms developing as we head through the evening. Scattered storms are expected, with the biggest concern is an isolated damaging wind gust, and downpours. Not everyone will see storms, but a level 1 out of 5 remains in place for severe weather. Due to lightning I think we may have some minor delays in Friday night football games. It will remain hot and humid through the evening with lows in the lower 70s.
The storm arriving late this week and into the weekend is shaping up to be a “widespread potentially catastrophic event from Texas to the Carolinas,” said Ryan Maue, a former chief scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

This will be the second-strongest level issued by NOAA for geomagnetic storms. The concern tonight is a severe geomagnetic storm of this magnitude can potentially affect the Earth’s power grids, satellites, and aircraft data.
While most locations see mainly rain on Sunday, the Piedmont could see a few wet bursts of snow as the moisture exits to the northeast.
The overall severe weather threat is low, but lightning in the vicinity during game time is possible.
