Sun and clouds with cooler conditions Friday

We’re keeping an eye on a storm system moving across the Deep South that’s bringing some much heavier rain to places along the Gulf Coast and parts of Texas. As it heads toward the Carolinas, though, it’s going to run into a cooler, drier air mass that’s already sitting over us. That’s basically going to lock us into a cloudy, cool pattern heading into tonight and Friday, with highs stuck in the upper 60s and low 70s. Saturday, expect rain starting very early into the afternoon. Temperatures will struggle to get out of the upper 50s to near 60 degrees, and with a cool northeast breeze, it’s going to feel even chillier.

Day 1 of Severe Weather Preparedness Week: Severe Thunderstorms and Tornadoes

Did you know that about 10% of thunderstorms in the U.S. each year are classified as severe? That means they can pack wind gusts of 58 mph or higher, produce hail the size of a golf ball or bigger, or even spawn tornadoes. These storms are serious threats to both life and property, so it’s crucial to be ready.

Severe Weather Preparedness Week overview

Each day this week, the WCCB Charlotte WeatherWise team will focus on a different safety topic β€” helping you prepare for the hazards that come with severe weather.
