Tracking Rain Heading into the Weekend

As we head into Friday expect a mix of sunshine and clouds, with afternoon highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Temperatures will depend on cloud cover. More sunshine could push highs into the low to mid-70s, while extra clouds may keep things closer to the upper 60s. I'm sticking with tomorrow being our best chance of beating a record for Charlotte Metro. A few spotty showers are possible late Friday afternoon and evening, but many areas stay dry. Southwest winds will keep the mild air in place overnight, with lows in the 40s to near 50 degrees.

Skyscraper-size Asteroid Will Buzz Earth On Friday, Safely Passing Within 1.7 Million Miles

Astronomers say an asteroid as big as a skyscraper will pass within 1.7 million miles of Earth on Friday. NASA estimates the space rock is between 690 feet and 1,575 feet across, which means the asteroid could be similar in size to New York City's Empire State Building.

Scores Of North Carolina Sea Turtles Have Died After Being Stunned By Frigid Temperatures

Officials say scores of sea turtles stunned by cold temperatures along the North Carolina coast have died. The North Carolina State University Center for Marine Sciences and Technology says it took in 109 cold-stunned sea turtles from Cape Lookout on Sunday. Officials say the frigid temperatures leave the cold-blooded reptiles lethargic, leaving them vulnerable to being carried by wind to the shorelines.
