Shark Attack Victim: It’s Just Miracle After Miracle
Concord, NC– A Concord mother is sharing an inspirational survival story.
It was a romantic getaway to the Bahamas with an ending Tiffany Johnson and her husband James never imagined.
“I remember thinking: this is not the end, you know? I’m not going to die here. He’s not gonna take my life,” said Tiffany Johnson.
A shark attacked as she snorkeled around a reef in Nassau.
“I just felt something tug or bump my arm, and it didn’t hurt,” said Johnson. “He was just still, floating there with my arm in his mouth, and it was just eerie.”
She tried to pull her arm away.
“We started to struggle. There was some thrashing,” said Johnson. “I felt this supernatural strength come from within me, and I remember thinking: this is not the end.”
The mother of three pulled her arm, and the shark let go.
“I remember just pulling it out of his mouth and seeing this mangled stump, and I just threw off my snorkel mask,” said Johnson. “I started to swim toward the boat, and I screamed out, ‘Help me! Help me, Jesus!”
“To see her swim back to the boat with that one arm and the other arm raise the entire time, I was in shock,” said James Johnson.
Her husband says Tiffany stayed calm, told him to get a towel and wrap her arm.
“She’s telling me to do these things, and she’s the one I just got attacked,” said James Johnson. “She’s just had a peace about it this entire time.”
“It’s just God. There’s no other explanation,” said Tiffany Johnson.
Tiffany says her church found people to help with the flight home and get her to a surgeon in Charlotte days earlier than expected.
“What he did for me, not only getting me out of the water, but there’s a string of miracles after that, of even getting me out of the Bahamas, and then getting the best doctor in the country just assigned to me,” said Tiffany Johnson. “It’s just miracle after miracle. To me, that just shows God’s relentless, unstoppable love.”
The mom had her last surgery Friday, June 9. That was one week after the shark attack.
She will get a prosthetic in the coming months.
She says she will have to learn every day tasks, “But, I’m here, and that’s really what matters. My kids still have their mom, and my husband still has his wife,” said Tiffany Johnson.
