
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police arrested a man and a woman for their role in several identity thefts in the Charlotte area.
Investigators say Brent Caltagirone used names and social security numbers of several people after receiving their information so he could complete their income taxes. Detectives say Caltagirone kept the clients tax returns and also used their information to open bank accounts, credit cards and several lines of credit at Navy Federal Credit Union.
Police also say Caltagirone worked at Elwood’s BBQ and stole employee applicants names and social security numbers. It was determined that Caltagirone was a suspect in an embezzlement from the business as well.
Caltagirone was arrested on September 26th after police executed a search warrant at his residence and found evidence of identity theft. During his interview with police, he told detectives he also received account information on several people from Karima Lane.
Lane worked at a south Charlotte car dealership. Lane voluntarily turned herself into police. She has been charged with conspiracy to commit identity theft and trafficking in stolen ID’s.
Caltagirone has been charged with two counts of identity theft, two counts of false pretense and trafficking stolen ID’s. Additional charges are pending against him.
