BLOWING ROCK, NC — At 3,500 feet, Blowing Rock had yet to see the rain change to snow Friday night, but elevations over 4,000 feet had already seen the changeover.
Road crews were out at midnight checking the conditions. They were not able to put out the salt brine earlier in the day Friday because the rain would just wash it away. The overall feeling for the season’s first snow is excitement as the winter season gets underway.
Earlier Friday, Meteorologist Greg Armbrecht met up with Sugar Mountain Marketing Director Kim Jochl. She talked about what this early snowfall mans to the area. “Early snow really gets the local community, the business owners, the ski fanatics on the mountain,” said Jochl. “They follow our Instagram, they follow our website, so with snow this early, they’re definitely excited. And like I said, the business owners love it too.”
We are still expecting 4 – 8 inches of snow before precipitation tapers off late Saturday.
