Foot-Brawl: SC-Clemson brawl 10 years later

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson coach Dabo Swinney won’t ever forget the ugly brawl with South Carolina 10 years ago — or fearing for Gamecocks coach Lou Holtz in the middle of it.

Swinney, then the Tigers receivers coach, rushed on the field to separate players after the fight broke out late in Clemson’s 29-7 victory in 2004. While grabbing anyone he could, Swinney saw Holtz on the ground clinging to a players’ leg — and worried the Hall of Famer coaching his final game might get seriously hurt in the scrum.

A decade later, the fight between the longtime state rivals remains horrifying for anyone who watched or took part — a low point in an intense rivalry that’s dominated sports in the Palmetto State for more than 100 years.
