BOONE, NC — The winter storm dumped mostly snow in the high country Monday night.
Moderate to heavy snowfall began in the late afternoon in Boone, reaching about three to four inches of accumulation by 10:00pm. More snow is expected to fall overnight.
In Morganton, the snow quickly changed to sleet Monday afternoon, and roads deteriorated quickly. Most of the people we spoke with were trying to get home before conditions got worse.
“They’re getting bad. I think they’re going to get worse as tonight goes down, temperature goes down, but at the moment it’s still drive-able,” said Morganton resident John Lo.
The driving conditions will get continually worse overnight into Tuesday morning as temperatures fall and the precipitation continues.
