BOONE, NC — It’s the calm after the storm.  Roads have been plowed, driveways shoveled, and the Town of Boone quiet.  But just a few hours ago it was a very different picture.  The DOT worked all day long clearing roads, trying to keep conditions safe for drivers.

“They work tirelessly hour after hour to keep the roads clean and safe for us, and we definitely appreciate it,” said Kristin Espinosa of Boone.  She spent her snow day digging out, but then she got a chance to enjoy it and went sledding with her kids.  “They love it,” she said.  “They can’t wait to get outside and play in the snow.  The first time, the first snowflake that comes down, they’re like, ‘Can we play in the snow?’  So they love it.”

A winter haven for them, but not so much for drivers.  Officials are warning again: be careful.  Local resident Trey Young has this advice: “Stay in if you don’t have to be out, and, you know, just stay warm and safe, and don’t travel if you don’t have to.”

With more snow and brutally cold temperatures in the forecast, that’s some great advice.
