ATLANTA (AP) β The Atlanta Hawks survived a tougher-than-expected test from Brooklyn and held off the Nets 96-91 for a 2-0 series lead. Paul Millsap scored 19 for the Hawks, who now head to Brooklyn for the next two games starting with Game 3 Saturday. In Los Angeles, the San Antonio Spurs edged the Clippers 111-107 in overtime to tie their series up at a game apiece. Tim Duncan scored 28 points and Patty Mills scored a career playoff high of 18 points to lead the Spurs.
ATLANTA (AP) β The Hawks made news off the court as well with a group headed by billionaire Antony Ressler saying it is buying the team for $850 million. The Hawks went on the market after the discovery of an inflammatory email written by co-owner Bruce Levenson in 2012, complaining about the racial makeup of the team’s fans.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) β The Memphis Grizzlies posted a 100-86 victory over Portland to take a 2-0 series lead in that Western Conference playoff. Courtney Lee and Mike Conley each had 18 to lead the Grizzlies. Marc Gasol (gah-SAWL’) added 15 points and seven rebounds.
NEW YORK (AP)β Make it 10 straight victories for the Amazin’ Mets. Lucas Duda hit a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning in the Mets’ come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Atlanta that improved their early season record to 12-3.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) β Barry Bonds’ obstruction of justice conviction has been reversed by a federal appeals court. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled 10-1 that his meandering answer before a grand jury in 2003 was not material to the government’s investigation into illegal steroids distribution.
