WASHINGTON (AP) β A Game 7 in any playoff series is always exciting and this evening in Washington, the Capitals are facing the Islanders in the final game of their first round playoff. Back in 1987 the same two teams hooked up for the longest Game 7 in NHL history as it took four overtimes for the Islanders to prevail. New York goalie Kelly Hrudey (ROO’-dee) turned back 73 shots in that game.
UNDATED (AP) β Montreal and Minnesota advanced to the second round of the NHL playoffs yesterday. The Canadiens eliminated Ottawa in six games with a 2-0 victory, while the Wild knocked the Blues out in six with a 4-1 victory.
PORTLAND (AP) β Mike Conley won’t be able to play for the Grizzlies tonight as they face the Blazers in Portland. The Memphis point guard suffered facial injuries in Saturday’s game with the Blazers. Memphis leads the best of seven series 3-0.
CHICAGO (AP) β Chicago’s Bulls can finish off the Milwaukee Bucks tonight with a win on the home court. The Bulls top the Bucks 3-1 in the best of seven NBA first round playoff series. The winner of the series will face Cleveland in the second round as the Cavaliers finished off Boston yesterday.
ST. LOUIS (AP) β This is a big day for the St. Louis Cardinals and their fans as ace pitcher Adam Wainwright undergoes an MRI on his injured left Achilles and left ankle. The two-time 20 game winner was injured while batting during a game Saturday and it is feared he will be lost for the season.
