Police shoot tear gas to disperse New Jersey concert crowd

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say New Jersey State Police blocking gates outside of a hip-hop concert at a stadium had bottles thrown at them by people who were trying to get inside — some without tickets — and they later used tear gas to try to disperse them.

State police say crowds of people tried to “illegally” force their way into the sold out Hot 97 Summer Jam concert at MetLife Stadium Sunday night and became upset when the gates were closed and blocked off.

An armored state police vehicle began blasting a piercing loud noise to try to disperse the crowd and police later deployed tear gas.

A state police spokesman says some arrests were made. The number of arrests wasn’t immediately known.

Kendrick Lamar and Chris Brown headlined the concert.
