Wrecks, Stranded Drivers Pile Up on HWY 321

Catawba County, NC– Icy roads are still causing wrecks from Charlotte metro into the mountains.

Troopers worked 54 accidents before evening rush hour Monday.

A Lenoir police officer was one victim. In the mountains, emergency responders say most drivers are heeding warnings and staying indoors.

Paramedics worked five minor Rex and Avery, Ash and Watauga Counties Monday.

NCDOT will focus most attention on main highways and interstates into Tuesday morning. Emergency responders expect side roads to remain dangerous, some impassable, until Tuesday afternoon.
