GOLDSBORO, NC — Officials say they have evacuated 797 inmates from Neuse Correctional Institution as a result of flooding caused by Hurricane Matthew.

According to officials, rising floodwaters surrounding the prison forced an evacuation Monday morning. All inmates were transported safely to other sites within the state prison system.
