CMPD Officer Arrested For Threatening Other Officers At Transit Center

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A CMPD officer was arrested early Friday morning after police say he was intoxicated and threatened to harm other officers at the Transit Center in Uptown.

Officials say the incident happened around 1:15am at the Transit Center on East Trade Street.  Someone called 911 saying a man was being belligerent at the Transit Center.

When officers arrived on the scene they say Officer Byron Blair was intoxicated, causing a scene and threatened to harm officers.

Blair was arrested and charged with the following two crimes: communicating threats and intoxicated and disruptive.

Blair was hired by CMPD in October 2015 and is assigned to the Steele Creek Division.  He has been placed on administrative leave and is the subject of a criminal and internal investigation.

CMPD Chief Putney released the following statement:

“Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are expected to conduct themselves to the highest professional standards and will be held accountable when they fail to do so. At no time will this department tolerate behavior that violates the law or our community’s trust.”
