FBI & NC Law Enforcement Looking For ‘Ball Cap Bandit’
CHARLOTTE, NC — The FBI and several law enforcement agencies across the state are looking for a serial bank robber known as the ‘Ball Cap Bandit.’
Officials say the man is believed to be responsible for five bank robberies in five different towns across the state. The FBI says they are working with police departments in Hickory, Mebane, Mocksville, Newton, and Durham to locate the suspect.
In each of the robberies, officials say the suspect wore a ball cap. He is described as a black male with a dark complexion, in his mid-50s, between 5’5″ and 5’7″, with a thin build.
According to reports, the suspect is wanted for robberies at the following locations:

BB&T, Yadkinville Road, Mocksville, North Carolina, April 24, 2017
First Citizens Bank, 11 S. College Avenue, Newton, North Carolina, April 26, 2017
State Employees’ Credit Union, 3810 Ben Franklin Blvd, Durham, North Carolina, April 28, 2017
According to a release, Durham Police identified their bank robbery suspect as Melvin Williamson, but FBI officials say it is too early to determine whether Williamson was responsible for the other robberies.
