Punches Thrown At Panthers Game, Arrest Made
Charlotte, NC — We’re learning more about the criminal past of the man arrested for assaulting another fan at the Panthers game on Thursday.
It happened in the upper deck at the Bank of America Stadium.
CMPD arrested Kyle Maraghy Friday evening, and he’s expected in court Monday.
Cell phone video caught not one, but four punches on camera.
CMPD says Maraghy is the one who assaulted a 62-year-old man at the game against the Eagles.
Photos show the man bloody and bruised, and Maraghy ended up with a mug shot in the Mecklenburg County Jail, charged with simple assault.
“It’s surprising, honestly, I would never think,” said Lana Lysak.
She’s Maraghy’s neighbor. She watched the outrage grow online as the video racked up views.
CMPD says Maraghy was standing, blocking the view of the game. That led to the argument that ended in the punch and run.
Maraghy was not home before his arrest and did not answer WCCB Charlotte’s call to hear his side.
He’s 26-years-old and lives in Mooresville.
In 2010, he was convicted of felony possession of LSD according to the NC Department of Public Safety.
He’s been involved in four assault cases since 2013, according to police records.
He’s listed as a victim in two and a suspect in two.
A witness in one case asked WCCB Charlotte to hide his identity.
“Just to see that nothing’s obviously changed,” said the witness. “Like I said, there’s a pattern behavior there. That is just kind of unsettling that he still able to be out doing things like this.”
“I do not wish that on anybody to take that punch. It was probably really painful,” said Lysak.
The Panthers released a statement saying they are committed to a fan-friendly and family-friendly stadium experience.
