Wilson’s World: Previewing the 809 Foundation Upcoming Cornhole Tournament

The 809 Foundation Cornhole Tournament this Saturday, August 11th in the Fort Mill Police Department parking lot.

FORT MILL, S.C. – Wilson was spending his morning with officers from the York Country Sheriff’s Office, but luckily for him, he wasn’t under arrest.  He was actually with the group learning more about the upcoming 809 Foundation Cornhole Tournament as well as the foundation itself.

The 809 Foundation was created earlier this year as a legacy and memorial to Detective Michael R. Doty, a 12 year veteran with the York County Sheriff’s Department who was killed in action on January 17th of this year.  809 was chosen because it was his call sign.  Officer Doty was a man who cared about and was very involved in his community and the people in it.  He was deeply involved in helping to alleviate the opioid crisis in the community.  And even in death he was helping others as he was an organ donor.

The foundation’s mission is to provide assistance with substance abuse prevention and treatment; youth mentoring; and community unity.

The 809 Foundation Cornhole Tournament  is a great family friendly event.  It will be held during the Fort Mill Main Street Jam this Saturday, August 11th.  Players can get together teams or come in and be paired up with a team before the event.  All ages are welcome. The event will be held in the Ft. Mill Police Department parking lot. Check in and registration begins at 1pm with the tournament kicking off at 2pm.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams. Get more information on the tournament HERE.

Learn more about the 809 Foundation at their website 809foundation.org.  You can also connect with them on Facebook and Instagram.

Consider being an organ donor.  LifeShare will be at the event to provide more information to those who would love to help save a life.
