Mecklenburg County Says 2019 Gap Bills For Motor Vehicles Due September 1st

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (News Release) — If your vehicle is registered with an annual renewable license tag, the North Carolina Tag & Tax Together program ensures the taxes for the vehicle are paid at registration to the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles.

However, if there is a “gap” of time between when the tag registration expired and when it is renewed, Mecklenburg County is required by state law (N.C.G.S. 105.330.3) to assess and bill for the time the vehicle’s registration lapsed. Taxpayers who recently received a Gap bill for 2019 are reminded that bills are due Sept. 1, 2019. If the bill is not paid on or before Jan. 6, 2020, interest will begin to accrue monthly.

How to Pay Your Gap Bill

You can pay your Gap bill or any other tax bill online by eCheck or credit/debit card payment at MeckNC.gov/PayTax or over the phone by dialing 1-800-994-1026.
