Wilson’s World: Remembering Hurricane Hugo With Patrick George From Heartwood Tree
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — This morning, Wilson was at Freedom Park with the founder of Heartwood Tree, Patrick George, talking about Hurricane Hugo and all of the beautiful trees in Charlotte.
On September 22nd, 1989, Hurricane Hugo made landfall in Charleston as a category 4 storm with wind speeds in excess of 130 miles per hour.
The storm claimed dozens of lives, caused billions of dollars of damage, and left many in the Charlotte area without power for weeks.
If you were in the Carolinas when Hugo came through, you probably have a Hurricane Hugo story.
