Vance Prepares For Return To State Championship Game With Added Motivation
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two points. The margin of victory for Wake Forest over Vance in the 4AA state championship game last year was two points. Glenwood Ferebee wasn’t the Cougars head coach for that game a year ago but he’s been quick to bring it up all season.
“They lost by two points on a mistake that they could have controlled,” said the first year head coach. “They could have easily had a state finals championship last year and they realize that, and I use that as their motivational tool. I make them understand that they were two points away from getting a ring last year so this year it has to be different.”
Things have been very different for Vance this year, despite returning 75% of a defense that allowed 9.5 points per game this year, the Cougars name never came up as one of the top team’s in the area, let alone the state.
“To them it was just kind of disrespectful to put other teams in front of them,” said Ferebee.
The playoff run for Vance to make it back to the state championship has seen them play every game on the road. Their last home game was on October 25.
Vance will have one more game this season, but this time it’s for the right to bring home a ring. The Cougars and Leesville Road will square off Saturday at 3pm at Kenan Stadium on UNC Chapel Hill’s campus.
The game can be viewed on WCCB Charlotte CW.
