People Around The World React To Derek Chauvin Verdict
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — People around the world are reacting to the guilty verdict for ex-officer Derek Chauvin. The conviction, many people are pointing out, represents accountability but it does not bring George Floyd back.
Leaders across the country and here in Charlotte want Tuesday’s conviction to serve as a seminal moment in policing and race in America.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tweeted: “George Floyd should be alive today. His family’s calls for justice for his murder were heard around the world. He did not die in vain. We must make sure other families don’t suffer the same racism, violence & pain, and we must enact the George Floyd justice in policing act.”
Lebron James tweeted: “Accountability.” And President Biden says this is one step.
