Harding University High Placed On Lock Down Following Fight On Campus; Gun Found In Backpack

UPDATE: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say the fight started shortly before 12:30p.m. Police say they’ve charged two students for their involvement. It doesn’t appear anyone was injured.

CHARLOTTE, NC – Harding University High School in west Charlotte was put on lock down on Tuesday after a fight on campus. A gun was also found following a search.

The school’s assistant principal sent a message to parents alerting them of the situation.

This is Assistant Principal, Dr. Foggie with an important message. Today, we placed the school on lockdown due to a fight. A gun was found in a book bag during a search by law enforcement. The safety and security of our students and staff are of paramount importance and today’s actions were necessary to ensure that safety. This behavior is not appropriate and will not be tolerated. Any students found to be involved in today’s incidents will be disciplined in accordance with the CMS Code of Student Conduct.”

It’s unclear how many student were involved in the fight or if any of them will face charges.

17 guns have been found on CMS school campuses this year. The school board is meeting Tuesday evening and plans to discuss school safety.
