Durham woman identified as third soldier aboard Black Hawk helicopter involved in midair collision

The Army identified a Durham woman as the third soldier who died Wednesday while aboard the Black Hawk helicopter that crashed into the Potomac.

Captain Rebecca Lobach, 28, was a native of Durham, North Carolina and was a distinguished military graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

She was commissioned in 2019 as an active duty aviator officer.

Staff Sergeant Ryan Austin O’Hara, 28, was one of the three crew members killed in the crash. O’Hara was the Black Hawk’s crew chief. He leaves behind a wife and a one-year-old son.

The other soldier is identified as 39-year-old Chief Warrant Officer 2 Andrew Loyd Eaves. He was the instructor pilot on board. The Army says his remains have not yet been recovered.
