ORIGINAL STORY (POSTED 6/3/25):
CATAWBA CO., NC – One man is in custody in connection to the mass shooting that happened in southwest Catawba County early Sunday morning.
Police say 20-year-old Garon Killian is now facing attempted First Degree Murder in a shooting that happened at a house party on Walnut Acres Drive in Catawba County.
Killian was arrested Tuesday evening. He is also accused of shooting into a crowd of people back in April where he also faced attempted murder charges. The FBI is piecing together what they think happened at the house party.
“At this point in our investigation we believe the gunfire came from up on the hill behind the house next door and was directed at the pool and party goers then we believe someone at the party returned fire as they fled,” Shelley Lynch from FBI Public Affairs said.
58-year-old Shawn Hood was killed and 11 other people were injured. Police found 80 shell casings over a two acre scene and they say the tips are pouring in.
“We’ve gotten a lot of our leads from surveillance videos, from camera footage that we’ve gathered from other homes and other areas, and also from social media,” Lynch said.
Police are asking for pictures or videos from the areas of Highway 127, Huffman Farm Road, Pittstown Road, and now Bethel Church Road.
Law enforcement officials executed several search warrants at multiple locations including along Buck Road in Lincoln County.
Neighbors watched as police showed up Tuesday and spent hours taking pictures inside the home.
Alcohol Law Enforcement is also investigating possible underage drinking at the party. The FBI says that shouldn’t stop people from speaking up.
“Lives have been changed forever, one person lost his life that’s going to impact his family and many others for years,” Lynch said. “So if anyone knows anything about this it’s really important to come forward and let us know.”
