NC Attorney General calls foul on DOJ, FCC over Nexstar-Tegna merger

North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson is calling foul on a massive media merger.Β

Jackson is accusing federal regulators of clearing the way for a corporate win just a day after North Carolina and seven other states sued to block the $6 billion merger deal between TV giants Nexstar and Tegna.

After that lawsuit was filed, the DOJ dropped its antitrust investigation into the merger. The FCC waived its own decades-old rule that prevents a single TV company from reaching more than 39% of households, and they approved the deal.

Now, AG Jackson has filed an emergency motion to freeze the deal before Nexstar can consolidate stations. The deal, Jackson says, will spike cable bills for families.
