CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office deputy was fired after being arrested for a domestic violence incident that happened at his home on Wednesday.
Police received a call around noon about a domestic violence call for service at Deputy Francisco Ramos’ home in Mint Hill. The sheriff’s office said Ramos was on duty when he learned of a family emergency and left to go home.
According to the affidavit, Ramos told the responding officer that his wife, Christine, pushed him in the bathroom and that he pushed her back and she fell through the closet door. The officer spoke with Christine, who was hiding in the closet, and she said that Francisco picked her up and threw her into the closet door.
The officer was shown video of the incident, which led to Francisco’s arrest. He was charged with assault on a female. He received a $5,000 unsecured bond and was served a domestic violence protection order.
“In today’s society, domestic violence has been a persistent issue that transcends cultural, social, and professional boundaries. As law enforcement officers, we are not immune to this problem either. As Sheriff, I have zero tolerance for it in the workplace or in the personal life of our staff,” Sheriff McFadden said. “Yesterday’s arrest underscores the urgent need to address domestic violence. Any actions that undermine public trust or compromise safety will be addressed swiftly and appropriately.”
Francisco was terminated on Thursday. He had worked for the sheriff’s office since June 2012.
