Concord, Kannapolis move to mandatory water restrictions
The rain over the past two days was a start, but we still have a long way to go to get out of this drought.
Concord and Kannapolis are moving to mandatory water restrictions starting next Friday, and that would include a limited lawn watering schedule and prohibiting washing of your car at home.Β
This aligns with several other cities and counties in our area that will also start mandatory water restrictions on the 15th.
Duke Energy is part of the Catawba-Wateree Drought Management Advisory Group. A spokesperson tells WCCB the heavy rainfall this week was merely a drop in the bucket.
βYou might see your grass turned green, like the creeks might rise. You might think, βwow, this is great,β but honestly, you can think of it kind of like a Band-Aid,β Logan Stewart said. βItβs like a temporary solution. It buys us a little bit of time, but that real recovery as far as drought and water levels, especially in the lakes, thatβs going to depend on a steady rainfall over weeks or months.β
Stewart tells WCCB we will likely stay at this Stage 2 water restrictions for most if not the rest of the summer. To keep track of the lake levels, you can visit Duke Energyβs website.
