Another 90 degree day with bright sunny skies

Rain chances return for the mountains Wednesday evening

Tuesday morning starts off warm and fairly muggy with mainly clear skies and temperatures climbing to the 60s early in the day. You’ll notice the summer-like feel right away as humidity levels continue to build.

By this afternoon, expect another hot day with plenty of sunshine and highs nearing 90 degrees. When you combine the heat with the humidity, it will feel even warmer during the peak afternoon hours. Make sure to stay hydrated and keep the sunscreen nearby because UV levels will be very high.

The hot pattern continues Wednesday with highs once again reaching the lower 90s, which is well above average for this time of year. Most of Wednesday stays dry, but by Wednesday night, a few showers and possibly an isolated storms may begin developing across the mountains as our next weather system approaches from the west. Communities east of the mountains are expected to remain mainly dry through Wednesday evening.

A bigger pattern change arrives Thursday as a cold front slowly moves towards the Carolinas. Scattered showers and thunderstorms move in  Thursday afternoon and could linger at times right into the holiday weekend. The latest trends show the cold front slowing down and stalling, which keeps periodic rain chances in place through at least part of Memorial Day weekend.

Rainfall totals still do not look especially heavy, but many neighborhoods could pick up between a half inch and one inch of rain between Thursday and next weekend.

Temperatures are cooler heading into the weekend as well.
