A Wet Weekend Ahead
Multiple rounds of rain moving in through the weekend
The upcoming Memorial Day weekend is shaping up to be much wetter than normal across the region. While there will still be opportunities to get outside between rounds of rain, several waves of showers and thunderstorms are expected from today through Memorial Day.
And even though temperatures will not be extremely hot, the humidity will make it feel much warmer at times especially by Sunday and Memorial Day. Also every late evening and early morning dense fog will be an issue.
Friday Brings Clouds, Showers, and Cooler Temperatures
Today stays locked into a gray and damp pattern with clouds covering the area for much of the day. Afternoon temperatures will stay in the upper 70s, which is actually below average for late May.
A few showers move through on and off today, but rain becomes more widespread tonight as deeper tropical moisture pushes into the region.
Because temperatures stay cooler, the heat index will not be much of an issue today.
Saturday Looks Like the Wettest Day
Saturday continues the soggy setup with numerous showers and a few thunderstorms expected throughout the day. If you have outdoor plans, this is likely the toughest weather day of the holiday weekend.
High temperatures will stay in the mid-70s thanks to thick clouds and steady rainfall at times. The extra humidity will make the air feel sticky, but widespread rain should keep the heat index close to the actual air temperature.
Sunday Turns More Summer-Like
By Sunday, temperatures rebound into the low and middle 80s, and we may even catch a few breaks of sunshine during the day.
That combination of warmth and increasing humidity will make it feel noticeably hotter outside. Heat index values could climb into the upper 80s during the afternoon before scattered showers and thunderstorms begin developing later in the day.
Memorial Day: Warm, Humid, and Stormy at Times
Memorial Day itself stays unsettled with another chance for afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Highs will climb into the lower 80s, but with the humidity sticking around, it may feel closer to the upper 80s at times during the afternoon.
It will not rain nonstop all weekend long, but there will be enough showers and storms around to keep outdoor plans weather-dependent.
Next Week
The pattern stays in place with daily rain chances. Temperatures stay seasonably warm in the 80s, and humidity levels remain elevated, which means heat index values will continue running a few degrees hotter than the actual temperature during the afternoons. Stay tuned!
