Advocates Push for Rio’s Law in North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, NC — Advocates are working to raise awareness of Rio’s Law as the initiative expands to North Carolina.

Layla Luna, founder of Just Bee, joined WCCB Rising to discuss how the law aims to improve interactions between first responders and individuals with autism or other neurodivergent conditions.

One of the key components of Rio’s Law is a specialty license plate that can alert first responders that someone in the vehicle may have sensory sensitivities or behaviors associated with neurodivergence before an interaction begins.

The law also emphasizes specialized training for first responders to help them better recognize and respond to the needs of autistic and neurodivergent individuals.
