Man accused of murdering missing woman talked to WCCB a month before his arrest
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Charlotte man who is accused of murdering a missing Charlotte woman spoke to WCCB a month before he was arrested. Shaquina Harris was reported missing by family back on July 13th. Police now say Floyd Long has been charged with murder, failure to report a death and larceny of a dog in this case.
Harris’ family suspected Long was involved in her disappearance when they reported her missing on July 13th. On July 16th, WCCB Charlotte knocked on Long’s door at his home on Woodford Bridge Drive. He saw the camera and asked us not to show his face. We asked him where to find Shaquina Harris.
“She left here weeks ago. I don’t know anything about where this child is,” Long said.
Harris was last seen by family on July 2nd at Atrium Hospital with Long. Harris was at the hospital visiting her sister after she gave birth. On July 5th, police say Harris’ phone pinged for the last time at Long’s home.
“Anything I can do to help her find I will. But I can’t do anything more than let people come and search,” Long said to WCCB.
Court papers show on or around July 5th Long told a friend that he had “done something bad” and asked for help moving Harris’ body. Court papers say that friend did not help move the body, but took Harris’ dog and left the home. She was reported missing to police on July 13th when police opened a missing person investigation.
“After I took her to see her sister’s baby. She left. She’s been gone, I’m trying to figure out if all these people care about her. Why, why she been missing for 15, 10 to 15 days for nobody know anything,” Long said to WCCB.
Her family posted fliers and canvassed Long’s neighborhood. Court papers show investigators found Harris’ blood inside Long’s house and car. They also found a gun. Long invited WCCB inside his home back on July 13th, but we declined.
“I’ve allowed three searches of this property. You guys can come in too. I’ve allowed three searches of this property with no hesitation without a warrant Voluntarily,” Long said.
Long is now facing several charges including murder and concealment of a death. Investigators found her remains near the woods on Statesville Road.
“I had PTSD, I had a mental breakdown not too long ago,” Long said to WCCB. “They got video footage of everything. I don’t leave this house. She came here, she needed help.”
Long is also facing charges related to stealing Harris’ dog. The dog was last seen on July 16th when Long picked it up from a friend’s house. Long is being held in the Mecklenburg County Detention Center on no bond. He’s scheduled to appear in court again on September 4th.
