HUNTERSVILLE, NC – A police pursuit that started in Cornelius ended with cars overturned and smashed up after a crash in Huntersville Saturday morning.

Six people, including the suspect police were chasing are in the hospital.

Investigators say they were searching for Jeffrey Wayne Greene because of a parole violation and several outstanding warrants.

“All I heard was a big boom, boom, boom, it’s like a loud noise,” says Huntersville resident Carolyn Thrasher.

Thrasher was one of the first on scene at the end of the chase. Four cars were involved, with six people hurt on Statesville Road near Rich Hatchett Road.

“I ran outside and I saw a car flipped over and the police ran up to pursue one guy, and they had their guns out,” Thrasher says.

Cornelius Police says Greene led them on a  chase up and down I-77.

Greene has active warrants in three counties – Mecklenburg, Lincoln, and York, South Carolina. His 11 charges include hit and run with failure to stop, plus larceny and possession of stolen property.

Investigators say the chase started when they got a tip Greene was staying at a Days Inn off exit 28. They followed him up to exit 33 where they say he rammed into a police car, then started back south, eventually getting off at exit 25.

“We came out here and there’s cars scattered all over the road,” says Huntersville resident Davis Park.

Neighbors near the crash scene say they’re concerned the chase came too close to them.
One person was airlifted. Police say three of the six people taken to the hospital have serious but non-life threatening injuries.

“The biggest concern of mine is that people decide to run from the police and things like this can happen, you know I could have been pulling out of my house, or my wife, or anyone that I know,” says neighbor Mike Pruett.
