CHARLOTTE, NC – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and the North Carolina Local Barbershop Association are working with residents in an effort to build a bond of trust.
“I think the police and citizens, like we’re doing now, should communicate. That way we can have a better focus on each other,” says North Charlotte resident Robert Stover.
CMPD held a cops and barbers town hall in North Charlotte Sunday to discuss police and race relations. Citizens got a chance to experience what it’s like to be an officer, using a police simulator, making sudden decisions and reacting quickly to situations.
“Some of these decisions that you have to make are split second decisions. It’s just a high intensity position,” says Charlotte City Council Member Greg Phipps.
Community members say efforts like cops and barbers in Charlotte help improve the relationship.
