CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β Team officials say quarterback Cam Newton has returned to the Panthers’ facility two days after sustaining two fractures in his lower back when his truck was hit by another car and overturned.
Newton did not attend practice.
Panthers spokesman Charlie Dayton said Newton arrived Thursday morning and is expected to visit with coaches and begin rehabbing from his injuries. Newton has two transverse process fractures in his lower back, but will not need surgery.
It’s unclear if Newton talk publicly for the first time since the accident.
Panthers coach Ron Rivera has already ruled Newton out for Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay. Derek Anderson, who led the Panthers to a win over the Buccaneers in the season opener, will get the start.
