Man Charged With DWI After Injuring 2 N.C. State Troopers In Crash On I-85

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man has been charged with a DWI after crashing into a patrol vehicle on I-85 South and injuring two state troopers on Thursday.

Authorities say Trooper Brinson and Trooper Locklear had pulled over a black BMW for speeding and were seated in their patrol vehicle issuing a citation when the crash occurred.

While issuing the citation, a red Kia, operated by Jackson Grace of Charlotte, ran off the right shoulder of the roadway and collided with Brinson’s patrol vehicle and the black BMW that was stopped.

Authorities say the Kia then continued off the shoulder and struck the guardrail face to the right.

After the crash, Troopers Brinson and Locklear exited the patrol vehicle from the passenger door and the BMW driver was also able to exit his vehicle.

Brinson and Locklear suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital following the crash, according to a news release.

Police say the driver of the BMW suffered no injuries and was taken home by CMPD.

The driver of the Kia, Jackson Grace, was also not injured as a result of the collision.

After being evaluated by troopers, authorities say Jackson Grace was arrested and charged for Driving While Impaired, Fail to Move Over, and Reckless Driving.

Troopers Brinson and Locklear have since been taken home from the hospital and remain in good spirits, according to a news release.
