Judge Says Rowan County Commissioners Violated Constitution With Prayer

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A federal judge says the Rowan County Board of Commissioners have violated the Constitution by coercing public participation in prayers that overwhelmingly advanced beliefs specific to one religion, according to the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina.

The ACLU Foundation filed a lawsuit in 2013 in reference to the Board’s prayer practices.   Now, board members will not be allowed to request that the public join them in prayers that advance one faith before meetings.
