Snow & Ice Exit Carolinas, Cold Air Sticks Around
The coldest air the Metro has seen in over three years arrives Tuesday morning.
The wintry weather may be wrapping up, but the damage is already done. Snow/sleet totals are ranging from upwards of a half-foot in the High Country and Foothills to a trace in the southern Piedmont. While a few more snow or sleet showers are possible as the system exits the Carolinas, don’t count on much more in terms of accumulation. Expect lows to tumble into the teens and 20s overnight, as the leftover clouds steadily clear out.
Now, it’s time to focus on the cold. It’s going to be a struggle for many Piedmont locations to get out of the 30s and 40s for much of the week ahead. In fact, some of the coldest air the Metro has seen in over three years arrives Tuesday morning. The High Country, Foothills, and northern Piedmont will dance around the lower teens, while the Metro and southward will bottom out just below 20°. Precipitation chances remain minimal for the first half of the week, but showers of both the rain and snow variety could make a return by the second half of the week. We’re also looking at next weekend for the potential for another wintry system. Stay tuned!
