ATLANTA, GA — A plane carrying a Charlotte missionary battling Ebola has left the airport in Liberia, heading to Atlanta. Nancy Writebol is in serious but stable condition. She will be treated at Emory University Hospital along with Dr. Kent Brantly from Samaritan’s Purse.
Meantime, two adult missionaries and their six children evacuated from Liberia are in south Charlotte. The group returned to the U.S. last night and is staying at the SIM USA campus near Carowinds. Officials say they are not infected with Ebola and do not pose a threat to the public.
“They’ve been through all the testing; the medical examinations have all come back negative, and so there is really almost zero risk for them,” said George Salloum, SIM USA Vice President of Finance and Operations.
The Ebola outbreak in west Africa has claimed at least 887 lives. The virus is transmitted through an infected person’s bodily fluids. WCCB Charlotte will have a crew in Atlanta Tuesday for Nancy Writebol’s return to the U.S.
