CHARLOTTE, NC – No charges have been filed in a South Charlotte murder that left one person dead inside the Fox Haven apartments complex on Carmel Road.
“For this tragedy to happen here right at Christmas is very, very sad and unfortunate,” said Ricco Wylie, a South Charlotte resident.
“It’s more than frightening because there are so many families that live in here. We are a peaceful neighborhood,” said Jane Plummer, a South Charlotte resident.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a call around 6a.m. on Friday morning. When officers arrived they found 49 year old Robert Craddock Jr. suffering from a gun shot wound. Craddock later died on scene.
“It kind of shocks me that it would happen around here because I thought this was a really good neighborhood, a really good area,” said Ryan Austin, a South Charlotte resident.
Police say the shooting was not random and it appears two family members got into an argument, which led to the shooting.
“I think the Holidays bring up a lot of emotions and you see family members you maybe don’t see quite often,” said Lisa Taraboi, a South Charlotte resident.
“It’s worrisome. We have not had anything happen in this area in the last 15 or 20 years. That’s the scary part,” said Plummer.
Although neighbors don’t know what went on inside the apartment, they just hope it’s a one-time thing.
“Hopefully and prayerfully we will get through this and we won’t have another one in this area, ever,” said Wylie.
