IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — An Iredell County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured Monday night after someone hit a patrol car, according to authorities.
NC State Highway Patrol responded to I-77 North near Tomlin Mill Road around 9:30 p.m. to investigate an injury collision.
An investigation determined that a 2007 Nissan Maxima was traveling north on I-77 behind a 2017 Dodge Charger, which was an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office patrol car. The Nissan lost control at a high rate of speed, ran off the road to the right, traveled back onto the travel lanes, and collided with the passenger side of the patrol car.
The driver of the Nissan, identified as 33-year-old Charles Stanley, of Harmony, received minor injuries, according to a news release.
Stanley was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving, and failing to maintain lane control, NC Highway Patrol said.
Authorities say drug impairment is suspected as a contributing circumstance to the collision pending blood test results.
The driver of the Iredell County patrol vehicle, Deputy Philip Henshaw, was also injured and transported by EMS to Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville.
