Charlotte Fire Crews Rescue Dog Stuck In Quarry | VIDEO
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A lost dog has been reunited with his owner after being trapped in a quarry in Charlotte for several days, officials say.
Zeus, a husky/pit bull mix, was rescued by fire crews Wednesday afternoon, just two days after Charlotte Fire was originally notified about a dog on a ledge down 170 feet at a quarry near Old Nations Ford Road.
Charlotte Fire says due to the depth of the quarry and soil type, it did not initially have the resources to safely rescue the dog.
Officials say this is when the company that owns the quarry stepped in to hire a crane company to remove the dog.
After bringing in the crane on Wednesday, Charlotte Fire members got into the bucket of the crane and were lowered down to help get the dog out.
Crews tried to coax the dog over to them with burgers they had cooked earlier in the day, which Zeus spit out.
Officials say once crews were able to make contact with Zeus, the dog refused to walk and demanded to be carried back to safety, which firefighters did.
Zeus has since been reunited with his owner and is being checked out at a local animal hospital.
